A Credit Privacy Number (CPN) is a nine-digit number that looks like a social security number. You can buy them to create a new identity, a fresh start, they say. But using a CPN is illegal.
Just ask the man who got arrested. He strode confidently into the Mercedes Benz dealership and picked out a car. The salesman was only too happy to assist him with selecting options and setting up financing. But then something happened.
When the finance company ran his credit report, they discovered the buyer was using a CPN, not a real social security number. The finance manager told the salesman to stall the buyer.
The salesman went back to the buyer. The salesman shook his hand. “Congratulations on your new car!.” He then engaged him in a “pre-delivery inspection” stalling for time. The moment the gate went up for the buyer to drive his shiny new Mercedes out of the lot, there were seven police cars waiting for him.
He knew he was caught. But he had to at least try to get away. It didn’t work. He was arrested, and then the police discovered that he had a bag full of ID cards and fraud paraphernalia in his possession as well.
Using a CPN is classified as identity theft and making a false statement on a loan application.
That is a FELONY, not an opportunity or a fresh start, as the scammers would have you believe.
Do your credit repair the right way, which does not include a so-called shortcut.
By the way, some of those CPN numbers are social security numbers belonging to children, to the elderly, and to dead people. Others are made up numbers that are easily identified as fake because of the sequence of numbers. Don’t think you can get away with using a CPN on a mortgage, car loan, credit card application, or anything other than filler for the garbage bin.
