Tell Me What You Want to Know

For almost 10 years, I have been writing posts to help people save money and avoid mortgage scams and rip-offs. I have also been writing about repairing and restoring your credit, and how to get a credit score you can be proud of.

But there is always something new to learn! So please post a comment and let me know what you would like me to write about next.

By the way, have you noticed my website and blog posts are not cluttered with annoying ads all over the place? I pay Word Press an annual fee to keep the ads off.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions, ideas, and comments.

  1. Hello Carolyn.
I own one of your books and your tips are an awesome guide when needed. After not consulting with you for a while I’m back to extreme debt. I was in a n auto accident in July 2023. Since then I’ve had at least 2 doctors appointments per week. I lost my employment, but with all the appointments (that I have to follow; by my attorney, is been a constant struggle to pay my bills. I was never late and my credit was good but because my ratio to income, it wasn’t the best. I was working on paying my debt without missing any payments. I am completely broke and cannot pay my credit card bills. I called the one with the largest amount to get help but they are not proactive and I have to be late on my payment for them to even consider talking to me. I hate the idea of lowering my credit because I cannot work enough to pay due to my injuries. The lawsuits will not be settle for months even years. What do you recommend I do?

  2. Hi Carolyn,
I have both “Repair your Credit” books and love them. I don’t need a lot of help with my credit, I use your books to maintain and keep the “trash” out of my file. Until recently. I was doing a regular check up on my credit and saw a collections had been added and I immediately disputed it. The credit bureau says they are legit. It turns out that several years ago, I had signed up for a credit card service (POS) at my old business that I used for a short period of time. I canceled the service when I signed up for a different credit card service, however…… it appears that maybe I didn’t cancel it correctly as they continued to charge me a service fee of a couple of dollars a month. As they didn’t have access to my account anymore, they racked up a year or two of maintenance charges, wrote them off, and sold them to a collection agency. It only amounts to about $600 and I could negotiate and settle, but it irks me to do that. I only work sometimes now, so I have the time to spend to fight this, and I would like to, as I feel like this is not a legit charge. Any suggestion on how I would proceed? Thanks in advance. Aussie

    1. Hi Aussie, What an unfair situation! The first thing I would do is check to see if the account is past the Statute of Limitations. What is the date of the first late payment? Look at the chart for your state in Repair Your Credit Like the Pros DEEPER DIVE, Chapter 11. After that, there are additional steps you can take, but I need more information on this account, so I will send you a personal email. Bottom line is that I agree with you about challenging this rather than paying it. Carolyn Warren
